SEO Critical impact Easy 5 min per page

Title tag (page title)

Every page needs a unique, descriptive title of 50–60 characters.

What it is

The title is the text in <title> in the HTML head. It appears as the blue heading in search results and in the browser tab. It is one of the strongest on-page signals.

Why it matters

The title carries the most weight among on-page elements for relevance and significantly affects click-through rate (CTR). One that is too long gets truncated; an empty or duplicate one confuses both Google and users and lowers rankings.

How to do it

  1. 1Keep the length around 50–60 characters (about 560 px) so it isn't truncated.
  2. 2Place the main keyword as far forward as possible.
  3. 3Every page must have a unique title — no copies across the site.
  4. 4Add the brand at the end: "Keyword — Site Name".
  5. 5Write for humans: the title should entice the click, not just be a list of words.

Before and after

Wrong
<title>Home</title>
Correct
<title>Kids' winter jackets — sale up to -50% | ShopName</title>

Conclusion

The title is your "ad in the results". Invest in it: unique, with the keyword up front, under 60 characters, and written to be clickable. It is one of the cheapest changes with the biggest effect on both rankings and CTR.
